Vlad's Cape (HD)

Vlad's Cape is a pair of wings acquired by killing Vlad, found in his Castle in 5-1 of Hell. It is equipped on the Spelunker's back, and will replace the Cape or Jetpack if either are already equipped. Only one can be acquired per game due to it only being obtainable from Vlad himself.

Functionality

Vlad's Cape functions similarly to the standard Cape, although activating it will cause the player to double jump, before automatically initiating normal Cape gliding abilities.

Of note is that the gliding is only ever activated automatically after double jumping, and cannot be toggled back on by the player while midair much like how they can with the normal Cape.

Strategy

When compared to its iteration in Spelunky 2, Vlad's Cape is a clunky, unwieldy item that is hard to effectively use due to the user being unable to reactivate its gliding ability midair.

Also unlike the incarnation found in the sequel, Vlad's Cape does not double blood dropped from enemies, and thus cannot help players heal with a Kapala faster.

Players that don't already own a Cape or Jetpack may want to take Vlad's Cape, as any mobility in the air is better than no mobility. The double jump granted with Vlad's Cape may also help the player more easily reach over long hurdles of level that they may have normally needed rope to get over.

In general, the normal Cape will serve the player than Vlad's Cape in stressful situations, and the Jetpack is objectively better than both items, as it carries none of the flammable downsides it does in Spelunky 2.
