The Black Market is a special back area in The Jungle containing 7 total shops, as well as a clover and a Hired Hand coffin. The shops all have the same prices as they would on 1-2, and one of the shops sells only the hedjet, a powerful item which gives access to the City of Gold, the worthiness to pull Excalibur, and extra light in back areas and dark levels

Finding the Black Market

The Black Market entrance can spawn on either 2-2, 2-3, or 2-4. The Udjat Eye will make a sound and flash blue, or "tick" whenever the Black Market entrance is close. The closer the entrance, the faster the ticks, until you enter, after which they stop. Like the first game, it will be hidden behind a ground tile, which will have to be destroyed for the Black Market to be entered

Unlike the first game, however, the Black Market is a back area instead of a separate level. It always spawns underneath the first half of the level, like the Yeti caves does in the empty space between floor 1 and 2 of the Ice caves, and if the entrance doesn't spawn at the very bottom of the level, a tunnel will be constructed leading directly to the Black Market. No other back area will lead to the Black Market, but the player may get a glimpse of the market or the entrance from their area

Since the Black Market in Spelunky 2 is a back area instead of a different level, it will never spawn on the same level as the Moon Challenge. Two different songs play in the Black Market, one more tribal drum-like playing before the market is reached, like in the tunnel, and one kicking in once they enter. This tribal music will play in all the back areas of the level though, so it can be easy to determine which level has the Black Market even without the Eye, though finding the entrance will still be an issue.

Also unlike the first game, the entrance will have far less leaves around it, making it so you can't see it if it is near the surface.

Inside the Black Market

The Black Market is similar to the first game. It has seven shops, one of which sells the Hedjet, a coffin at one of the top corners which gives Nekka if you haven't unlocked her, and otherwise a hired hand, and many, many resources. However, it exhibits some key differences. First, there is no gambling shop in the Black Market, guaranteed. Second, there is no kissing booth shop, since they were removed, although the pet shop still can appear in one of the shops. Each of the non-Hedjet always will be one of the six normal shops, the Weapons shop (gun logo), the Specialty shop (magnifying glass), the Hired Hand shop (knuckle logo), the Clothing shop (hanger logo), the Pet shop (dog logo), and the General store (bag logo). Each shop will spawn once and only once in the Black Market[Citation Needed], so there will be a wide variety of items to either buy or steal.
