Shop (Spelunky 2) Shop (Spelunky HD) Shop (Spelunky Classic)

S2GeneralStore

Shops have a chance to spawn in most standard levels. The most common Shops are the ones ran by the Shopkeeper's Association, though other NPCs can be occasionally found running their own businesses.

Generation[]

Shops can spawn on any level, with the exception of Dwelling 1-1/1-4, The City of Gold, Duat, boss levels (3-1, 6-4, 7-4), and all levels after 7-4.

A Shop has a 2/X chance of spawning on a level, with X being the current level. For example, 1-3 has a 2/3 chance of having a shop, while 2-4 has a 2/8 (1/4) chance of having one. 1-3 has a 100% chance to spawn a shop if 1-2 did not have a Shop, and the 1-2 Shop itself can never be a Hired Hand Shop, Pet Shop, or Dice House.

Even if the chance to spawn a shop is successfully rolled or even was a 100% chance, they still aren't guaranteed; Shops can only spawn in a free space along the main path to the level's exit, and this space can be taken up by other rooms like Yang's Pen, the building housing the Udjat Eye's Locked Chest, or a Vault.

The Black Market houses a total of seven shops, and shops never spawn outside it on the same level.

Pricing[]

All wares have a base price and a level inflation coefficient. The formula for pricing is:

For example, a Bomb Bag has a base price of $2250, and an inflation coefficient of $250. By 1-2, one level was completed ($250 * 1), so it would cost $2500. By 2-4, seven levels have been completed ($250 * 7), and it would cost $4250.

Discounts[]

  • All items in the Black Market are sold at their 1-2 price instead of the price they would be in the current level.
  • Buying every item in a Shopkeeper's shop awards a "Big Spender" discount, which grants a 10% discount on all future Shopkeeper shops.
  • Having the Crown gives a royalty discount of 50%.
  • Wearing The True Crown grants a discount of 200%! This doubles the price of all items.

All discounts stack together, and the Big Spender discount can never be lost, even if Shopkeepers become angry.

Stealing[]

Items can be stolen from shops by taking them out the door, angering the vendor. If the vendor is already angry, items can be taken for free. Angering a Shopkeeper by stealing from them (but not by any other method) before level 3-1 causes Sparrow to spawn in a future level.

For more information on stealing from the Shopkeeper's Association (and its consequences), see Spelunky 2:Shopkeeper.

Types of Shops[]

There are 7 types of Shopkeeper Shops, being General Stores, Clothing Shops, Weapon Shops, Specialty Shops, Pet Stores, Hired Hand Shops, and Dice Houses.

The first 4 shop types sell four random items from their respective item pools. All items have an equal chance of appearing, and all shops can also sell Presents.

Shop Offerings
General Store Compass, Parachute, Paste, Rope Pile, Bomb Bag, Bomb Box
Clothing Shop Cape, Spring Shoes, Spike Shoes, Spectacles,
Climbing Gloves, Pitcher's Mitt, Rope Pile
Weapon Shop Shotgun, Freeze Ray, Crossbow, Webgun, Machete, Boomerang,
Metal Shield, Powerpack, Spike Shoes, Bomb Bag, Bomb Box
Speciality Shop Jetpack, Hoverpack, Powerpack, Telepack, Teleporter, Camera,

Pet stores always sell 2 Rope Piles, 1 Pet, and either a Cave Turkey, Rock Dog, or Axolotl. Hired Hand Shops always sell 1 Hired Hand and 1 random Clothing Shop item.

Dice House[]

The player can pay $2500 to play the Dice game. After rolling both dice, the player receives something depending on the value they add up to:

  • 2-6: Nothing
  • 7: Reward behind the Forcefield. This reward can be any item from the 4 main Shop pools listed above.
  • 8-12: $5000 gold, for a profit of $2500.

Up to 3 rewards can be earned, at which point the Dice House game can no longer be played.

Throwing the same die again while playing the game is considered cheating, and taking/throwing a die outside of the shop is considered stealing. Both will anger the person running the Dice House.

Madame Tusk runs her own dice house in Tide Pool, which can offers up to 5 rewards. Cleaning out this Dice House rewards the player with free access into her Palace of Pleasure in Neo Babylon 6-3.

Other Shops[]

The Hedjet Shop only appears in the Black Market, and sells exclusively the Hedjet for $40,000 ($36,000 with Big Spender discount). The price of the Hedjet is static and never changes, regardless of level.

For shops not run by Shopkeepers, see Yang, Tun, Caveman Shopkeeper, and Ghist Shopkeeper.
