Plasma Cannon (Spelunky 2) | Plasma Cannon (Spelunky HD) |
The Plasma Cannon is a Weapon in Spelunky 2.
Obtaining[]
The simplest way to obtain the Plasma Cannon is by stealing it from its guaranteed spawn in the Mothership, using bombs to remove the Forcefields protecting it or killing Lahamu to deactivate them.
They can also be obtained from the following sources:
Shops | Miscellaneous |
---|---|
Tun's Curio Shops | Crates (0.01% chance) |
Presents (0.1% chance) | Caveman Shops (rare) |
Functionality[]
When used, Plasma Cannons fire a fast moving ball of plasma that explodes on contact with the same radius of a bomb. The projectile deals 10 contact damage + 10 explosion damage + 1 fire damage, totaling up to 21 damage dealt in a direct hit. Projectiles may be reflected by Forcefields, Robots, Metal Shields, Olmec, or Olmites wearing golden masks, sending the projectile back at the user.
They have a reload time of 2.48 seconds (1.23 seconds with a Powerpack). Its recoil is strong enough to launch the player an entire 4 tiles back, as well as off of ropes, ladders, and even the backs of Mounts. This recoil is lowered to two tiles with a Powerpack, and entirely nullified if riding a mount with a Powerpack.
The projectile doesn't explode if it hits an object that breaks instantly on impact (eg; skulls, pots, Curse Pots), instead destroying it and passing through. If it destroys a pot that happens to contain a monster inside, however, it will hit that monster and explode.
While not held by a user, Plasma Cannons explode if crushed or from making contact with lava. This explosion has the same potency as that of Powerpack's power bomb, destroying up to three tiles in the cardinal directions.
Strategy[]
The Plasma Cannon leaves levels and entities alike in smouldering ruin, though it can be as much of a threat to the user as it is to everything else.
- The safest way to shoot a Plasma Cannon is to stand against a wall and at least two tiles away from the desired target before firing. This keeps the user out of the explosion radius and stops them from being launched back by recoil.
- Pots and Corpses should be considered when judging the Cannon's fire path, because the projectile will explode on both corpses and pots with a monster inside.
- Stay vigilant of forcefields, robots, and other hazards that can reflect the Plasma Cannon's projectile back.
