Mummy (Spelunky 2) | Mummy (Spelunky HD) | Tomb Lord (Spelunky Classic) |
See also: Spelunky 2:Cat Mummy. Mummies are an enemy in Spelunky 2.
They rarely appear in Temple of Anubis and The City of Gold.
Behavior[]
Mummies have 10 HP and deal 2 damage on contact with the spelunker. They wander in a horizontal line forward, mindlessly walking off of ledges instead of turning around. For as long as a Spelunker is in front of it and within its range, it will try to attack them.
When attacking, its jaw extends before spewing a swarm of flies and vomiting 6 blood droplets on the ground. Mummy flies deal 2 damage on contact, but don't stun enemies they hit, unlike Mummy flies in Spelunky HD. Flies can damage any entity, not just players, and have 1 HP, disappearing after touching anything, including walls, items, and corpses.
Mummies instantly die to any fire-based attacks or to the flash of a Camera, and also have a 1/10 chance of dropping a Diamond on death. They are immune to being stomped on without Spike Shoes, but may be whipped.
Blood Farming[]
The 6 blood droplets released every time a Mummy attacks can be farmed with the Kapala for rapid HP gain. It's possible to get into a place where the Mummy doesn't stop attacking, but the player is safe from its attack flies. They can then heal for as much HP as time allows. This can be done in a couple of ways, including, but not limited to:
- If the player has Backwear, it can be taken off (by holding Down + the Enter Door button) in front of the mummy to use as a shield. The flies despawn after touching the dropped Backwear, keeping anyone crouched behind it safe.
- If the Mummy is standing just over a ledge, standing under that ledge makes it attack. The flies go over the player's head while the blood falls straight into them.
- If you're hanging on this ledge instead of just being under it, there's a chance one of the flies will hit you. This is easy to correct, so long as the player isn't caught by surprise.
- A well timed backwards whip just in front of the Mummy can destroy all of the flies before they can hit you, leaving only the blood behind. This is not only unsafe and inevitably kills the Mummy.
Spawns[]
Mummies are not spawned randomly throughout the level like most other enemies, instead only spawning as part of some rooms that may generate in a level grid. There are 5 possible Mummy rooms in Temple of Anubis, 2 Mummy rooms in The City of Gold, and 1 Mummy room in Temple of Anubis-themed Cosmic Ocean levels.
The images below are taken from Modlunky 2's level editor for cleaner viewing.
Temple of Anubis[]
The City of Gold[]
Cosmic Ocean[]
As there are 5 different entrance rooms for Temple of Anubis-themed Cosmic Ocean levels, there is effectively a 1/5 chance that levels contain a Mummy.
