Mantraps are carnivorous plants found in the Jungle.
Behavior[]
As soon as any entity touches a Mantrap's hitbox, they are instantly killed by being pulled into its mouth. It's impossible to stomp them, even with Spike Shoes, as they'll instead eat any spelunker who tries.
Mantraps eat any creature that touch them, including corpses thrown at them as well as Critters. After eating something, they become stunned for roughly a second as they digest their meal. It's possible to survive touching a Mantrap while holding a body or riding a mount, as it eats that instead, only dealing 1 damage to the Spelunker themselves.
They're smart enough to avoid walking on Spear Traps, but otherwise don't react to anything happening around them, presumably due to their lack of eyes.
NPCs can uniquely escape from the inside of Mantraps, killing it in the process. If the Mantrap is killed with the NPC still inside, the NPC dies with them.
Killing a Mantrap with a Shopkeeper inside kills the Shopkeeper and lets the player steal their wares, but won't anger the Shopkeeper's Association. This isn't the case with Tun, who still gets angry if you kill a Mantrap that ate her.
A Shopkeeper escaping a Mantrap.
Mantraps are immune to Thorny Vines, but are weak to Machetes and fire-based attacks, as they deal an extra point of damage to them. This makes it so that throwing a lit torch at a Mantrap or hacking at them with a Machete instantly kills them, regardless of health.
