Climbing Gloves (Spelunky 2) |
Climbing Gloves are a power-up item in Spelunky 2.
Obtaining[]
Climbing Gloves can be obtained from the following sources:
Shops | Miscellaneous |
---|---|
Clothing Shops | Crates (1.06% chance) |
Hired Hand Shops | Presents (4% chance) |
Dice Houses | Randomly buried in terrain |
Tun's Curio Shops | One of the potential rewards given at 8 favor from a Kali Altar if the spelunker does not have Climbing Gloves |
Caveman Shops (rare) | Sacrificing two dice adding up to a 10 at a Kali Altar |
Functionality[]
Climbing Gloves allow the user to grab onto and cling to any wall as if it is a ledge, by holding a movement input against it.
This controls identically to the way trees in Jungle are climbable. Releasing the movement key unsticks the player from the wall, unlike in Spelunky HD where the player had to jump to unstick themselves.
Clinging to a wall does not refill Jetpack fuel, but will replenish the double jump on Vlad's Cape.
The walls and ledges of Thorny Vines become harmless to the touch with Climbing Gloves, though walking into them while still on the ground will deal damage as normal.
Strategy[]
- It can be helpful to get into the habit of letting go of the movement key when nearing a wall to avoid inadvertently sticking to the wall with this item.
- By repeatedly sticking/unsticking to an adjacent wall, it's possible to slowly and safely descend into Spikes.
- If the user uses their Whip while on a ledge or wall (called a "ledgewhip"), they can jump mid-air in the first five frames of the animation.
- This makes it possible to grab onto a ledge that is above the player and two tiles away, a maneuver that is otherwise impossible with just climbing gloves.
- This technique is always possible from trees, even without Climbing Gloves.
Trivia[]
- Climbing Gloves in Spelunky 2 are made for hands with only 4 fingers, unlike the Climbing Gloves seen in Spelunky HD and Spelunky Classic, made with 5 fingers in mind. This is because spelunkers in HD and 2 only have 4 fingers on each hand. The Pitcher's Mitt was given a similar treatment as well.
