The machete is a melee held weapon that improves upon the player's whip. It can be found in crates with a 2.10% chance of dropping, as well as in weapon shops.
Functionality[]
The Machete deals two damage and can attack enemies while stunned. It is even capable of attacking enemies who are immune to the whip, such as Quillback, Pangxie, or Horned Lizards performing their roll attack.
The player can also cut through Bush Blocks in The Jungle or instantly slice through webs, granting quick passage for the user. Its sharp blade also allows the player to instantly kill mantraps with it, regardless of health.
Dealing a killing blow to an entity or attacking a corpse with the machete will gib it into unusable pieces.
While an upgrade from the whip, the machete is its own individual item, and must be put down in order to hold other items.
Strategy[]
Machetes are a great early-game option, as their incredibly cheap price (same as a Skeleton Key) yet high combat potential allows the player to easily cut through most or all hazards in the Dwelling and the Jungle with ease.
Despite this, a Machete very quickly begins to lose its value once the player is forced to hold other much more valuable items such as Hou Yi's Bow, and is made entirely obsolete if Excalibur or the Broken Sword is obtained.
- Although gibbing corpses with the machete will not cause them to drop blood and denies one from sacrificing it to Kali, destroying corpses means that they cannot be flung at the player by external forces and that they cannot be resurrected by a Necromancer.
- This can be especially useful in Neo Babylon, where Olmite corpses flung by spark traps can ignite flammable backpacks, or in the Sun Challenge where Necromancers are constantly reviving threats.
- The Ghist Shopkeeper can be easily killed by the Machete by destroying their corpse, allowing risk-free access to their wares.
- The Machete does become useful to the player once more in the Cosmic Ocean, as it may be received from one of the many crates in the area, effectively serving as a complete upgrade to the player's existing whip as they no longer have to worry about carrying around quest items or other important objects while in the final area of the game.
- The player should still be wary of Egg Sacs in Sunken City levels, as swinging a Machete at one will knock it out of their hands.
