Spelunky's 'Red Light District'
Lanterns are light sources that can be found in shops and in dark levels. If they're knocked loose with a bomb, boulder or Mattock, they become portable.
Two varieties of lantern can be seen: The usual yellowish kind, and the red kind found only in kissing parlors - a reference to the "red light districts" where prostitutes operate.
Lanterns can be carried from level to level; however, if a red lantern is carried into the next level, it becomes a yellow lantern. (In Spelunky Classic, lanterns cannot be carried to the next level and will be left behind at the exit).
