The Kapala is a chalice made from a human skull that is used to restore health by collecting blood. It is considered one of the most powerful items in the game due to its immense healing capabilities.

It is a passive accessory that is rewarded when one has pleased Kali with enough sacrifices at an Altar to earn 16 points of favor. The Ghist Shopkeeper in the Dwelling can also provide the player with a Kapala from one of their Presents.

Functionality

To fill the Kapala, the user must collect blood dropped from damaging enemies by simply touching droplets before they disappear. Blood from any source is acceptable, aside from the player's own blood.

After collecting seven droplets, the Kapala will empty and the user will receive one heart, at which point they can begin filling the Kapala again. The only limit to the amount of blood a player can collect with a Kapala is their own HP cap, which is 99.

Kapalablood

The seven stages of blood accumulation the Kapala has. The 8th stage will give the player a heart and reset the Kapala to its first stage.

Easy sources of Blood

  • Vlad's Cape will make enemies drop double the amount of blood when attacked, making it excessively easy to fill up the Kapala.
  • Mummies vomit a massive amount of blood when attacking. If a player either holds a corpse to shield themselves from its flies or hangs just under a ledge with a mummy on top, they may infinitely collect blood.
  • When an entity or its corpse is accepted for sacrifice, it explodes in a small shower of around 2-4 drops of blood. By standing on the altar, one can gather most of this blood with ease, filling the Kapala rapidly.
  • Throwing a corpse into spikes will cause it to produce blood as it sinks further into them. Corpses will eventually stop producing blood when thrown in spikes repeatedly, and will no longer produce blood from other blood collection methods.
  • Pets have three hit points; as long as they don't take damage from any other source, they can be whipped twice before rescuing or sacrificing them in order to obtain more blood.
  • It's possible to kill Critters with ranged weapons, thrown items, whipping, or just stomping on them. Although they only leave a single drop of blood, this is a risk free way of collecting blood.
    • Drones in Neo Babylon are the only critters that do not leave blood behind.
  • As Vampires also heal from collecting blood, a player can group up two or more of them into a corner then repeatedly throw an indestructible item (such as a Rock) at the two. Doing this will drop massive amounts of blood for the Kapala and can be done infinitely due to them also being able to heal from blood.
    • Vlad's Cape is required for the massive amounts of blood collection that allow the vampires to persist.
    • After the first two, adding another Vampire will not break this strategy, and will only allow the player to collect even more blood.
    • The body of a dead Hired Hand or Spelunker is best suited for throwing at the vampires, as it has a higher pick-up priority than the Vampires themselves, making this an even easier task.
Vampire-farm

Farming the blood of multiple Vampires by repeatedly tossing a dead Hired Hand at them, allowing for massive health gain with the Kapala.
