Jiangshi are weak enemies commonly found in Tide Pool and around the mausoleum in levels with the Restless Dead Level Feeling. They may also be spawned if a player angers Kali by destroying part of one of her Altars.
A more dangerous variant of the Jiangshi exists in the form of the Jiangshi Assassin.
There is an exceedingly rare chance that a Jiangshi will drop Spring Shoes on death.
Jiangshi move slowly and their only means of attack is to awkwardly hop towards the player in hopes of hitting them.
Jiangshi may sometimes be unpredictable with their leap, suddenly leaping much farther and faster than their usual short hops, potentially catching the player off-guard.
With only 1 HP, no corpse, and being able to be killed instantly with the Camera, Jiangshi are not a very threatening enemy.
In general, Jiang Shi are only really dangerous when one is distracted by more powerful enemies such as a Pangxie, or when the player is passing through dangerous terrain like over a pit of spikes or over the large lava lake found in 4-3, where the Jiangshi's attack may falter the player and cause them to fall into the instant death hazard below.
- Originating in Chinese folklore, Jiāng Shī (僵尸, meaning zombie in Chinese) are the restless corpses of people who've died far from home. Due to rigor mortis they are unable to walk and must instead hop their way back to their hometowns to be buried. They're often depicted in the robes and caps of Qing Dynasty court officials.
- Jiangshi are no strangers to video games; they've previously appeared in Darkstalkers, Super Mario Land, Phantom Fighter, and Touhou 13: Ten Desires among others.
