The Hedjet is one of the four Egyptian artifacts the Spelunker can find in Spelunky 2, alongside the Udjat Eye, Ankh, and Scepter. It is found in the Black Market in the Jungle, sold for $40,000. The Hedjet is the Jungle equivalent to Volcana's Crown.

Functionality

The Hedjet emits a large glow around the Spelunker, substantially increasing the amount that they can see in dark areas, similar to Spectacles. The Hedjet's glow and the Spectacles' glow stack if the Spelunker posesses both at once, which causes them to illuminate the entire screen. When the Hedjet's effect is active, it can be seen shining in the HUD above the Spelunker's health.

Posessing the Hedjet or Crown adds the line "I was a king/queen." to the Journal's Run Recap. King/Queen is used depending on the Spelunker's gender.

The Hedjet's true purpose however, is for reaching Sunken City. It has a different use depending on which Area 4 the Spelunker goes to.

Use in Tide Pool

In Tide Pool 4-2, the bottom of the level features a large lake with an island at the center. The center of this island features Excalibur placed in an unbreakable stone. If the Spelunker has Hedjet or Crown, they can pull Excalibur from its stone and use it as a weapon.

Use in Temple of Anubis

In Temple of Anubis 4-1, Anubis can be found. When he is killed, he drops the Scepter. In 4-2, a locked golden door can be found. If the Spelunker, equipped with the Hedjet or Crown, takes the Scepter to the golden door, they will be permitted access to The City of Gold, which destroys the Scepter in the process.

Feats

Collecting the Hedjet or Crown awards the following Feat:

Divine Right S2
Divine Right
Obtain some royal headwear in a non-seeded run.

The Hedjet is the third of four ancient Egyptian artifacts required to access the City of Gold.

It is an accessory obtained by using the Ankh to resurrect yourself inside the Moai statue that appears on one of the levels in the Ice Caves.

To gain access to the Moai, you must die on the level that contains the Moai while you still have the Ankh in your inventory. This destroys the Ankh but grants you access to the inside of the statue which contains a secret exit and the Hedjet. It is possible to leave through the exit before collecting the Hedjet.

It is not possible to acquire the Hedjet by using the Teleporter to warp inside the statue. If you teleport in, you will receive a diamond worth 7500 gold instead.

You cannot simply break into the statue using bombs or a mattock. However, you can break it with the ball and chain, but when you enter, a diamond drops from where the Hedjet is supposed to be. The player still needs to die on that level and respawn inside the statue to obtain the Hedjet.

Functionality

The only function of the Hedjet is to be used in conjunction with the Scepter dropped by Anubis on level 4-1 to open the golden door on level 4-2 to the City of Gold. Unlike in Spelunky Classic, it does not prevent dark levels from being generated, nor does it prevent the Ghost from spawning.

Unlike the Scepter, you retain the Hedjet after advancing through the door.

Trivia

  • The Hedjet, also known as the White Crown, was worn by the Pharaohs of Upper Egypt.
  • It is possible to enter through the Moai statue door without collecting the Hedjet if you enter the door immediately.

The Hedjet is the third of four ancient Egyptian artifacts required to access the City of Gold.

It is an accessory obtained by using the Ankh to resurrect yourself inside the Moai statue that appears on one of the levels in the Ice Caves.

To gain access to the Moai, you must die nearby while you still have the Ankh in your inventory. [1] The most reliable way of doing this is to simply commit suicide while the statue is on the screen. Obviously, this destroys the Ankh but grants you access to the inside of the statue, where the Hedjet lies in front of a secret exit. Do not attempt to use a bomb, as the persistent blast may kill you twice in quick succession, before and after the resurrection.

It is not possible to acquire the Hedjet using the teleporter to warp inside the statue, as the game considers the inside of the Moai to be solid until the Ankh is used. If you attempt to teleport in, you will die even if you land inside what should be the hollow interior. You cannot simply break into the statue using bombs or a mattock either.

Functionality

By itself, the Hedjet lets you see in dark levels without using light sources, and it prevents the Ghost from spawning, even after the time limit has been reached.

However, its primary role is to be used in conjunction with the scepter dropped from the Mummy on level 13 to open the Golden Door to the City of Gold. Unlike the Scepter, you retain the Hedjet even after advancing through the door, along with the Udjat Eye.

Trivia

The Hedjet, also known as the White Crown, was worn by the Pharaohs of Upper Egypt. It was later merged with the crown of Lower Egypt to signify the two kingdoms merging under one ruler.

Footnotes

  1. When the Ankh is consumed, the game checks if the Moai exists on the level, to decide whether to put you back at the entrance (as happens on other levels) or inside the Moai (as happens here).
However, the check that it uses for the existence for the Moai actually acts as a sort of "proximity check" that doesn't work if the Moai is in the Frozen Region. Thus, killing yourself by throwing yourself to the bottom of the level sometimes works, but only if the Moai is close enough to the bottom of the level.
