Spelunky 2 has three different endings.
Normal Ending[]
This ending is achieved by reaching level 6-4, defeating the boss there, and going through the exit door that opens after.
Completing this ending starts a brief cutscene where the spelunker finds a colossal statue made of gold, jade, and a large pearl. They are then saved by Guy Spelunky from a subsequent earthquake, and are carried back to the surface with the statue via a rocket ship. Afterward, $100,000 gold is added to the player's final score and Guy Spelunky is unlocked as a playable character.
The Journal's Run Recap after completing this ending reads, "Despite all odds, I defeated Tiamat and escaped to the surface."
Hard Ending[]
This ending can only be achieved by reaching a secret world accessed after World 6. Defeating the boss found in 7-4 and exiting through the door that opens at the top of the level will end the game.
The ending cutscene plays out similarly to the normal ending, though the player instead finds a massive chest full of assorted loot and is saved by Classic Guy. Afterward, $200,000 is added to the player's final score, and Classic Guy becomes playable.
The Run Recap after this ending reads, "Amazingly enough, I defeated Hundun and escaped to the surface."
Special Ending[]
Making it to the very end of the game's hidden final world leads to a unique ending in which a constellation is formed.
If this ending was achieved previously, a new constellation will be created, replacing the previous one.
The Journal run recap will read, "My skill, knowledge, and bravery allowed me to become one with the Cosmos."
Notes:[]
- In the normal and hard endings, the bonus gold awarded contributes to the 'Millionaire' achievement, but not the 'Low Score' achievement.
- If players are already playing as a character that would normally appear to save them in a cutscene, a different spelunker will assume their place instead.
- Priority for spelunkers that appear in cutscenes go as follow: Guy Spelunky/Classic Guy, Ana Spelunky, Tina Flan, and finally a random spelunker.
- It's possible to kill other players during the Special Ending cutscene in co-op, if the host enters the final level's exit door holding a Landmine.
- If the player killed by a landmine is wearing a Powerpack, the resulting pack explosion will kill the host as well.
- This doesn't ruin the run, as the ending and constellation are saved the moment you enter the final door, but it can be pretty funny.
