The Drill is a large setpiece located at the top of the Volcana level containing Vlad's Castle. It consists of a large drill shaft and an activation panel with an eye-shaped slot.

Functionality

Similar to The Black Market in the Jungle, the Drill will not spawn on 2-1 or on the same level as the Moon Challenge.

Placing the Udjat Eye into the slot on the panel next to the drill will activate it, creating a two-tile wide tunnel straight down and leaving a climbable chain in its wake. This tunnel goes deep below the standard exit, providing easy access to Vlad's Castle.

Notes

• The Drill will drill through any tile on its path, which can include undesired rooms such as ones containing lava lakes, creating a deadly hazard for the player as they climb down.
  • If a shop or Kali Altar spawns under the Drill, activating it will anger them.
    • Shops spawning under the Drill can be assuaged by stealing an item and running out of the door before activating the Drill. The player will instead earn two sin points for stealing, rather than six sin points for breaking shop tiles and subsequently killing the Shopkeeper with the Drill.
• Activating the Drill consumes the Udjat Eye, forcing the player to find Spectacles if they wish to see objects hidden in tiles again.
• It is possible to use bombs to get down to Vlad's Castle, if the player does not wish to activate the Drill for various reasons.
