Dice are an item in Spelunky 2. They are used as part of the dice minigame in Dice Houses ran by either Shopkeepers in almost any area or by Madame Tusk in Tide Pool.

When a dice is thrown, it will land with a different number on the front. This is used as part of the minigame in Dice Houses, where the player rolls two dice, and receives varying results for what number they add up to.

There is a trick to dice, where if they are whipped midair, they will always roll a 1 or a 6. This can be used to more easily roll 7s to earn prizes at a Dice House, or guarantee certain rewards at an Altar, as each die will have an equal chance to roll either number.

Sacrificing two dice together at an altar will give the player a reward, varying with what the number added up to.

A common dice trick used to more easily roll 7's. Note that this strategy is not feasible with Pitcher's Mitt.

  • The player should be careful when throwing dice, as if they accidently throw the wrong dice or throw it out of the Dice House, the person/people running it will anger, or they may accidently hit themselves with it.
    • A consistent strategy is to throw the dice at the forcefield in the Dice House, which will cause it to fall to the ground directly adjacent to the forcefield with a new number on it, even with Pitcher's Mitt equipped.
      • Without Pitcher's Mitt, the player can stand a certain distance from the forcefield and can still whip the dice before it makes contact with it and lands, guaranteeing either the 6 or 1.
      • With Pitcher's Mitt, the player will have to use another method if they would like to whip the dice, such as throwing the dice diagonally upward to the tile space directly adjacent to the top block of the forcefield.
  • Dice at an altar have many uses:
    • Whipping dice until they are both sixes and offering them at an altar is an easy way to net 6 favor from sacrificing the Hired Hand awarded or receive a companion to help the player carry items to the next level.
    • The player can easily earn a Cape from killing the Vampire awarded from rolling a value of 11.
    • Every other item can simply be earned if the player has no need for a back item or extra favor, such as Climbing Gloves.

  • It was possible to pick up a die while it is still rolling midair. Since this is technically a different item, it forever rolled in the player's hand until put down. This was fixed in version 1.20.4a.
  • Receiving a Snake from offering two dice with a combined value of 2 is an obvious nod to the term "Snake Eyes", referring to said value on a dice.
