The main purpose of a damsel is to give the [[Spelunker]] more health at the end of the level. However, they do have some other uses: they can be used as a makeshift throwing weapon, or to set off [[traps]]. Throwing or dropping them will result in their being stunned for several seconds. A damsel who has been picked up and dropped or thrown will eventually come to her senses and begin running around screaming. The damsel will run in one direction, will fall off platforms (making her fodder for spike traps and [[man-eating plants]]) and will only turn if she hits a wall. They have four health, but do not take [[fall damage]], melee damage, or damage from enemies other than the man-eating plants. Bringing them to a level exit will cause them to kiss you and give you an extra heart. Dead damsels can still be carried and used as thrown weapons, but you get no reward for carrying a [[corpse]] to the end of the level. Leaving a stunned or dead damsel on an [[altar]] will sacrifice her, raising your favour.

Damsels

The Damsel's three natural states, from left to right: helpless, panicked, and unconscious.

Damsels are blonde women in red dresses who can be picked up in the same manner as any other held item. They can be found randomly generated in the dungeon or in certain shops. Damsels in shops are treated as property of the shop, and you will be treated as a thief if they leave it (whether being carried out or running away on their own after being picked up).

Statistics

Health: 4 (With the exception of guns, damage is normalized against Damsels; thus both Arrows and thrown items deal 1 damage apiece.)

Damage: 1 (if thrown)

Size: Small (1x1)

Corpse?: Yes

Stunnable?: Yes

Special: Damsels do not take fall damage, and give you an extra heart if you bring them to the level exit.

Functionality

The main purpose of a damsel is to give the Spelunker more health at the end of the level. However, they do have some other uses: they can be used as a makeshift throwing weapon (or suicide bomber), or to set off traps. Throwing or dropping them will result in their being stunned for several seconds. A damsel who has been picked up and dropped or thrown will eventually come to her senses and begin running around screaming. The damsel will run in one direction, will fall off platforms (making her fodder for spike traps and man-eating plants) and will only turn if she hits a wall. They have four health, but do not take fall damage, melee damage, or damage from enemies other than the man-eating plants. Bringing them to a level exit will cause them to kiss you and give you an extra heart. Dead damsels can still be carried and used as thrown weapons, but you get no reward for carrying a corpse to the end of the level. Leaving a stunned or dead damsel on an altar will sacrifice her, raising your favour.

The Damsel is also a playable character and can be unlocked by opening the Changing Room. She controls no differently from the Spelunker.
