The Crysknife is a power-up item in Spelunky HD.

Obtaining

The Crysknife seen in the massive pool of acid within the Worm.

Inside the Worm, a large pool of acid can be found halfway through the level. In either the left or right side of the acid pool, the Crysknife can be found.

The Crysknife can be obtained from the acid pool using one of the following methods:

1. Diving into the acid, collecting the Crysknife, then swimming out before the acid deals damage.
2. Destroying one of the tiles supporting the acid, which will drain the pool and allow the Crysknife to be safely collected.

Functionality

When collected, the Crysknife will replace the Spelunker's whip as long as they have it. It does not need to be held to be used because of this.

The Crysknife is swung in a similar way to the whip. It's attack will instantly kill whatever it hits and will destroy bodies and corpses, leaving behind gibs in the process. The Crysknife can also be used to cut webs.

Notes

• The Crysknife can be used to kill Bacterium found in the Worm.
• If the enemy can be damaged through normal methods, the Crysknife can still be used to instantly kill.
  • Anubis, Anubis II, and even King Yama can be instantly killed by the Crysknife.
  • Magma Men are unaffected by the Crysknife's attack. Croc Men will avoid damage entirely by teleporting away when hit.
• If the player wishes to bring and use the Crysknife in Hell, they cannot go through the Jungle Worm, as that will always cause the Black Market to be missed. They must instead go though the Ice Worm, collect the Crysknife there, then visit the Mothership. Clearing the Ice Worm and the Mothership will always cause the Moai to be found in the second Ice Caves 3-4; the one after the Mothership.
• Attempting to use the Crysknife to knock one of the Mothership's Turrets off a ceiling will cause the Turret to instantly explode.
• The Crysknife cannot destroy a corpse which is being flung around by one of the Sceptre's projectiles.

Trivia

• The Crysknife is a reference to the fictional weapon in the Dune universe. It is made from the crystal tooth of Shai'Hulud, the giant sandworms that live below the sands of the desert planet Arrakis.
