The Compass is a relatively common accessory item. It can be found inside shops, rewarded by Kali at an Altar, or found in a Crate with a 3.98% chance of appearing.

Functionality

The Compass puts a red arrow on the HUD that will always point to the level exit when off-screen.

The compass can be quite a helpful item as it allows the player to plan their route through the level more efficiently, allowing one to run to the exit quickly to escape the Ghost or take a shortcut to avoid enemies.

The Compass is also handy in dark levels in case one loses their light source, or if they are holding something and do not want to give it up for a torch.

It is perhaps most valuable in the later levels such as Neo Babylon or the Sunken City, where it can make the difference between life and death.

By showing where the exit is, it will help the user to avoid ending up on the wrong side of the bottom of the map, which can be frustrating and often difficult to rectify, especially if they don't have many ropes.

The Compass will not point to secret level exits such as the one to The City of Gold. However, in levels with two main exits, such as the ones containing The Black Market or Vlad's Castle, it will display two arrows.

Unfortunately, it does not function at all in the Cosmic Ocean, and only the Alien Compass will point to level exits there.
