Bone Blocks are destructible blocks found in various Places in Spelunky 2. They are most often found in the Dwelling, in Quillback's lair, or as a part of an Idol trap.
Functionality[]
Bone Blocks are entirely stationary, but will be destroyed if hit by a thrown object, whipped, or if the block below is destroyed. They will often drop one to three Skulls when broken.
An object thrown at a Bone Block from a distance will bounce off of it after impact, but throwing an object while hugging against the Bone Block will both destroy the block and have the item pass through. This can be useful if the player is moving at a high speed and wants to retain items they were carrying (such as a Pet or the Gold Key) without having to run back and pick it up after destroying bone blocks in their way.
Bone Blocks will occasionally have a skull resting on top of them. Due to this, there is a higher chance of Skeletons spawning on top of them.
Certain Bone Blocks have Spikes lying on them, and can just as easily impale the player as all other variations can. It is however easier to deal with these spikes as they will be destroyed if the Bone Block they are lying on is attacked.
Strategy[]
Bone Blocks are generally a small, although irritating hazard seen throughout the caves.
- When forced to progress through Bone Blocks, the player should avoid immediately passing through or risk being hit by a skull as they pass forward, damaging them and stunning them for a short time.
- As Apep slithers through the Duat, it tends to destroy numerous Bone Blocks in its way, which tends to send skulls falling below into the direction of the player.
- Bone Blocks can be useful to the player if correctly handled, as if they are not destroyed or only a partial amount of them are, they can be used as a platform to jump up to areas that would be normally unreachable without mobility or rope.
- Although Bone Blocks do not always drop skulls, any that are dropped can be used to trigger Arrow Traps or for throwing at enemies. 1-4 in particular has numerous Bone Blocks surrounding the area containing Quillback and can be used to obtain large amounts of skulls to throw at him.
- The Pitcher's Mitt makes Bone Blocks substantially less dangerous, as any skulls that would normally hit the player will instead be caught by them, provided that their hands are empty.
