A Bacterium is a common type of enemy found only in the optional Worm level. They are immune to many types of damage, and can be deceptively dangerous, despite their simple movement and low damage.

Behavior

Bacteria move in predictable patterns as they patrol the surfaces of the terrain, rolling along contiguous walls. There are many narrow tunnels and passages in the Worm that can make these enemies very tricky to avoid, and their near-indestructible nature makes them even tougher to manage.

Bacteria do not detach from the walls they are rolling on, except when the block they are clinging to is destroyed.

Destruction

Although they will self-destruct after touching the Spelunker, and only deal a single point of damage, the player may still want to take matters into their own hands.

Attacking them with the whip will only stun them for a brief period, but to destroy them you must throw an object or attack with a stronger Melee weapon, such as the Crysknife found later in the Worm. A Freeze Ray can also be used, as whipping or stomping on them whilst they are frozen will cause them to shatter.

Strategy

• Although bacteria are immune to damage from the Shotgun and the whip, they will still bleed when hit. This is a reliable, albeit very slow method to farm blood for the Kapala.
• If the player does not have access to any means of killing Bacteria, it may be wise to find a safe place to stay and wait; watching and learning the routes taken by them.
  • Note that the Ghost does not appear in the Worm, so one may take as much time as they please to figure out a plan to dodge the various obstacles of the level.
