Exclusively found in Area 1 and 4, the Arrow Trap will shoot arrows at anything that comes within six or seven tiles directly in front of them. The trap itself is a stone square with a face carved on it.

There is a detection area that extends in front of the arrow trap, and when an object moves inside that area, such as arrows, pots, stones, Damsels, skulls, gold and gems, the trap will fire an arrow. If an arrow trap's view is obstructed by a tile, breaking the tile will not update its sight, so it will continue to have a short range.

Enemies that come in front of one will also trigger the trap. Arrows shot from the Arrow Trap deal 2 damage to any player or enemy that is hit by one. Note that as of version .99_5, Arrow Traps serve as light sources.

Strategy[]

The simplest method for baiting an arrow trap is to simply fall through the detection range. Due to the relatively slow firing speed, a player can fall through the range without being hit by the arrow, assuming enough downward speed and enough distance from the trap.

Another simple method is to use an item, such as a rock, skull, or bomb, and throw/drop it into the detection range of the trap, setting it off.

In version 1.1 (the current version of the game), if the arrow trap can be stood upon, you can flip-hang over the arrow trap to cause it to trigger right as you pass over it, causing it to miss (however, the arrow can still hit you if it bounces off an opposite wall).

Another method is when you are holding an arrow, you can fall or jump in front of the trap while moving towards it, and the arrow from the trap will pass through you. If the space between the arrow trap is 2-3 tiles it could still hit you if you are on the other side laying on the ground, so don't do that.
